FA2 TaRL Testing Guidelines 2026–27: Telugu, Math's and English
Teacher guide to assessment levels, test flow and recording the result
The FA-2 Tool-2 TaRL Testing Guidelines 2026–27 explain individual assessment in Telugu, Mathematics and English. Conduct the test in a friendly, relaxed setting and record only the highest level successfully achieved by each child.
FA2 TaRL Tool 2: subject overview
Telugu
Reading progression: Beginner → Letter → Word → Paragraph → Story → Comprehension.
Mathematics
Operations progression: No Operations → Addition → Subtraction → Multiplication → Division → Word Problem.
English
Reading follows the same level structure and testing logic as Telugu.
Telugu and English reading levels

How to conduct the reading assessment
- Begin with the paragraph (Level 3). If read fluently, continue to the story. If the child reads word by word, is not fluent or makes more than three errors, move down to words.
- For words: show ten words and ask the child to choose five; use the first five if needed. Four correct qualifies for Level 2. Otherwise test letters in the same manner.
- For letters: four correct out of five qualifies for Level 1; otherwise record Level 0.
- For the story: if read fluently, ask the two prescribed comprehension questions. If story fluency is not achieved or more than three errors occur, record Level 3.
- For comprehension: record Level 5 only when both answers are correct; otherwise the highest reading level achieved is Level 4.

Test in the order Addition → Subtraction → Multiplication → Division → Word Problems. Number recognition supports teacher awareness and is recorded in the School Learning Progress Sheet; the final Maths TaRL level depends on arithmetic operations and word problems.
