INTRODUCTION
Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University (Dr. YSRHU) was established by the Government of Andhra Pradesh through G.O.Ms.No.134 dated 26-06-2007 at Venkataramannagudem, near Tadepalligudem in West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh. It is the second Horticultural University in the country. Dr. Y.S.R Horticultural University started functioning independently from 10-05-2008 at its headquarters at Venkataramannagudem.
Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University is committed to develop the need based manpower and technologies to resolve the problems confronting Horticulture and enable the horticultural farmers in Andhra Pradesh to make horticulture as the most remunerative enterprise. Consequently, the state of Andhra Pradesh shall be the leader in Horticulture by fulfilling the ambition of the Government of Andhra Pradesh in establishing this University. Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University is presently having 4 Constituent Horticultural Polytechnics offering Diploma in Horticulture and Government has accorded permission for the establishment of new Horticultural Food Processing Polytechnic at Dhone, Nandyal District from the academic year 2025-26 onwards and also has given affiliation to 7 Horticultural Polytechnic Colleges situated in different districts of A.P.
Diploma courses and duration of the courses:

Eligibility: The candidates should fulfill the following criteria
Academic Qualification:
- Candidate should have passed SSC Examination conducted by Board of Secondary Education or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto by the Board of Secondary Education such as Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Council for Secondary Education (ICSE), National Institute of Open School (NIOS), Open School Society (OSS).
- Candidate should belong to the state of Andhra Pradesh as defined in G.O. (P). No. 646, Education (W) Dept, dated. 10.07.1979 and its subsequent amendments.
- Candidates who appeared SSC or equivalent examination held in March/April-2025, and whose results are yet to be declared can also apply.
- Candidates who have passed SSC in compartmental and who have either discontinued or failed in intermediate are also eligible for diploma admission.
- Candidate who had passed intermediate or pursuing higher studies are not eligible for admission into diploma courses offered by Dr. YSRHU.
Age Limit:
Candidates who wish to seek admission into these courses shall have to complete 15 years of age as on 31-08-2025 with an upper age limit of 22 years (Born in between 31.08.2003 and 31.08.2010).
Selection Process:
- Percent of marks/ Total marks obtained in SSC or its equivalent examination will be considered in the order of merit for seat allotment.
- In case of tie, the marks/grade point obtained first in Science and later in Mathematics and Social, respectively will be taken into consideration for tie breaking.
- In case if tie still continues, the age of the candidates will be taken into consideration and the older candidates will be given preference.
Note: ICSE students need to enter average of three subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) for science and two subjects (History & Civics; Geography) for social while entering the subject wise marks.
Reservation of Seats:
Reservation of seats for the candidates coming from Rural Area:
75 per cent of the seats in various diploma courses are reserved for the candidates who have studied for a minimum of 4 years in schools located in Non-Municipal (Rural) areas and 25 per cent of seats are reserved for the candidates who have studied in Municipal area.
FORM-I: Proforma to be certified by the Headmaster of the School with his office seal that the candidate has studied for a minimum period of four years in schools located in Non- Municipal (Rural) areas during their period of study from 1st class to 10th class (Non- Municipal Area Certificate).
If FORM-I is not filled in or duly not signed by the concerned Head of Institution or officer along with office seal, the claim of the candidates will be rejected and will not be considered under Non - Municipal (Rural) area.
Reservations based on category:
The rules of reservation shall be followed as per the guidelines issued by the Government of Andhra Pradesh from time to time.
The rule of reservation will be followed as detailed below.

Special Categories:
Physically Handicapped (PH):
Reservation to the extent of 5% for Physically Handicapped as per G.O.Ms.No.27, WCDA & SC (Prog.II), Department, dated: 14-05-2023. However candidates with defects like Muscular dystrophy, Deaf and Dum, Blindness and mentally retardation are not eligible for admission [Refer Annexure II].
Children of Armed Personnel (CAP):
Reservation to the extent of 2% of the seats shall be available for the children of ex- servicemen and defense personnel including Border Security Force and Central Reserve Police [Refer Annexure III].
Subject to the condition that
- Candidates whose parents are domicile of Andhra Pradesh will alone be considered as per the judgment of the Hon’ble High Court of Andhra Pradesh in W.P.NO.17095, 17950,17952,19150 and others of 2006.
- The candidate shall also submit a certificate from the Director, Sainik Welfare Board/ Zilla Sainik Welfare Board as to their eligibility to be considered under this quota specifying the category to which the applicant belongs with attested copies of the documentary evidence for claim as given in Annexure -VIII.
- The decision of A.P. Sainik Board or its nominee is final and binding on the Candidates in this regard.
The order of priority and merit under this category is governed by G.O.Ms.No.192, Edn.(EC-2) Dept., dated 26-8-94 and as amended by G.O.Ms.No.370, Edn.(EC-2) Dept., dated 18-10-1994 (See Annexure-III).
NCC (National Cadet Corps):
Reservation to the extent of 1% shall be available for candidates of this category. The priority for consideration will be as per GO.Ms.No.21 HE (TE-1) Dept., Dt.13- 05- 2002 [Refer Annexure IV] and other guidelines revised by Govt. of AP from time to time.
Sports:
Reservation to the extent of 0.5% shall be available for candidates of this category. Certificates issued by various organizations constituted by Central / State Government to conduct the event will alone be considered under this category. The participation in games and Sports before the qualifying Examinations will only be considered. The priority under this Category will be fixed as per the rules in vogue at the time of admissions [Refer Annexure V].
If there is more than one eligible candidate in a particular priority in any of the above four special reservation categories, the selection shall be based on the merit.
Inter conversion of seats among the special reservation categories is not applicable. If sufficient numbers of candidates are not available to fill the seats reserved for special reservation category, they shall be filled with candidates of general pool of that reservation category.
- The certificates of the candidates of above special categories shall be verified by the concerned officers and the seats will be allotted as per the priorities indicated by them during counseling.
- 33% of seats are reserved for girl students in all the above categories.
- 10% supernumerary seats shall be made available under EWS category
Allocation of seats:
Among the total seats, 85% of the seats are reserved for local candidates and 15% of seats are Un-Reserved and will be filled on merit basis. Among the local 85 per cent, the seats shall be allotted on 42:22 ratio among Andhra University (AU) region (Former Districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam) and Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) region (Former Districts of Chittoor, Ananthapur, Kurnool, Kadapa and Nellore).
Residential Certificate:
Applicants who have gap/break in the years of study for reasons other than failure or those who passed the qualifying examination by private study have to submit Residential Certificate issued by the Tahsildar/MRO. In case, the applicant has resided in more than one place, a separate certificate from the respective Tahsildars/MRO’s should be furnished for such places of residence.
Application for Maual counseling:
Application Fee:
- The candidates shall pay application fee Rs.1000/- (Rupees thousand only) for General candidates and Rs.500/- (Rupees five hundred only) in case of SC, ST& PH (Differently Abled) candidates.
- The payment shall be made through Demand Draft (DD) in favour of "Comptroller, Dr.YSRHU" payable at Tadepalligudem.
Application Procedure:
- Candidates should fill the application form carefully and check details such as local area/municipal/ non municipal area, reservation/ special categories etc. and manual Application should reach to "The Registrar, Dr.YSR Horticultural University, Administrative Office, Venkataramannagudem, West Godavari District-534 101, Andhra Pradesh" on or before 19-06-2025 by 4:00 P.M.
- It is the sole responsibility of the candidate to ensure that he/she fulfills the specified eligibility before applying/ filling application form.
- No corrections will be permitted once the application form is submitted.
- Please note that University/ Colleges will NOT be held responsible for denial of admission to non-eligible candidates.
- Multiple application forms submitted by a candidate will not be accepted and will lead to the cancellation of his/her seat.
- Government decided to link the scholarship applications with the Aadhar number for affecting the cash transaction scheme. For this every student must furnish the Aadhar number vide Government memo No. 16035/Sw. Edn.2/2012-4 dt. 29.12.2012.
- The admissions into polytechnics for the academic year 2025- 26 shall be made based on Manual Counseling.
- Candidates have to prepare set of preferable colleges they wish to join in consultation with their parents, teachers and friends and after thorough enquiry about the polytechnics in different districts.
- Candidate who fails to turn up at the allotted college within the stipulated time and not paying the prescribed fee will have no claim on admission into diploma programmes offered by Dr.YSRHU.
- The selection of candidates belonging to SC/ ST/BC/CAP/PH/ NCC/Sports is subject to clearance to be given by the respective departments during the counseling.
- Registrar, Dr.YSRHU is not responsible for the delay in clearance in respect of doubtful Caste/ CAP/PH/ NCC/ Sports cases.
- Any disputes concerned to admissions if any, shall be within the jurisdiction of the Hon’ble A.P. High Court.
Seat cancellation:
- If the admitted candidate cancels his/her seat before the closure of admissions for the Academic Year 2025-26 an amount of Rs.1,815/- (Rupees one thousand eight hundred and fifteen only) shall be collected as processing fee. The remaining fees already paid during admission shall be refunded.
- If the admitted candidate cancels his/her seat after closure of admissions process for the Academic Year 2025-26, the candidate should pay Rs.1,815/- (Rupees one thousand eight hundred and fifteen only) for general category and Rs.910/- (Rupees nine hundred and ten only) for SC/ST/PH category towards seat cancellation fee and the candidate has to forgo the fee already paid.
- After completion/closing of admission process, request for change of diploma polytechnic /course is not permissible under any circumstances.

* Fee chargeable in all polytechnics shall be fixed by the Dr. YSRHU and subjected to revision for the academic year 2025-26.
Hostel facility: Accommodation for students shall be provided on payment basis in both constituent and affiliated polytechnics subject to the availability.
The following certificates should be enclosed along with the application:
Original Demand Draft.
- SSC Memorandum of Marks or Equivalent Examination Certificates.
- Transfer Certificate of SSC/Intermediate (Fail).
- Bonafide/Study Certificate from 4th to 10th Class.
- Rural (Non-Municipal) Area Study Certificate (FORM-I enclosed in this information bulletin) for the students studied in rural area.
- Certified copy of the latest Social Status (Caste) Certificate issued by the competent authority in case of applicants belonging to Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
- Latest Income Certificate/ EWS Certificate issued by concerned authority for the candidates who applied under EWS category only.
- Physically Challenged Certificate, if applicable.
- Discharge Certificate and ID card for Children of Armed Personnel Certificate / Defense Personnel Certificate, if applicable.
- National Cadet Corps (NCC) certificate, if applicable.
- Sports and Games Certificates, if applicable.
All the original copies of the above certificates should be produced at the time of counseling.
Future Prospects:
15% of the total intake (of that corresponding academic year) of B.Sc. (Hons) Horticulture is reserved for the passed-out Diploma holders for admission into first year B.Sc. (Hons) Horticulture through HORTICET entrance examination conducted by Dr. YSRHU.
Eligibility for other Degree Programmes:
As per GO Rt. No.17 Dt.10-02-2021, Govt. of A. P, permission has been accorded to Universities, Colleges and Institutes etc., to admit 2 year diploma holders awarded by ANGRAU, Dr.YSRHU & SVVU into B.Sc. Biology stream programmes/combinations, B.Voc. Programmes in Agriculture and Horticulture programmes and other relevant disciplines as well as B.Com and B.A without Mathematics and Statistics.
Important Points:
- Candidates are required to read the information bulletin thoroughly before applying.
- Dr. YSRHU is intended to impart education to students, undertake research and extension activities. Hence, University does not guarantee any employment to the students who complete the diploma courses.
- Dr. YSRHU reserves the right to modify or cancel the notification without any prior notice.
- The guidelines issued by the Government of Andhra Pradesh from time to time shall be followed scrupulously including the reservations for EWS.
- Candidates called for Manual counseling will have to attend at their own cost only. Either Parent/Guardian of the candidate shall be allowed for Manual counseling.
- The candidate who secures a seat should submit all the certificates in Original along with the prescribed fees at the time of admission in Manual counseling.
- The certificates of the candidates under special categories (PHC, CAP, NCC & SPORTS) shall be verified by the authorities concerned. The University will not interfere in the process of preparation of priority/merit lists. The University allots seats to the candidates based on the priorities indicated by the competent authorities.
- The Counseling/Verification under special categories (PHC, CAP, NCC & SPORTS) will be held in the presence of authorities concerned and seats will be allotted as per the priorities indicated by the officers concerned.
- In case, the information furnished or the certificates uploaded by the candidates are found to be false, the University will take appropriate action against the individuals concerned and his/her application will be summarily rejected and even after admission also if found to be false/wrong at any point of time seat will be cancelled.
- Information related to counseling procedure shall be displayed on the University website (https://drysrhu.ap.gov.in). No separate paper notifications shall be issued further and hence applicants are advised to visit the website regularly for updated and latest information about counseling.
- Candidates are informed that mere submission of manual application and attending counseling does not guarantee seat allotment.
- Student can approach Help line number given below on all working days only from 10.00 AM to 5.00 PM only.
NOTE: Dr.YSRHU has the right to cancel admissions into any polytechnic college.
