AP SLAS 2026-27 – State Learning Achievement Survey

 

The Director of School Education, Andhra Pradesh, has issued proceedings regarding the State Learning Achievement Survey (SLAS) 2026-27 for students of Classes 5, 7 and 9. As per the proceedings dated 17 August 2026, the third round of SLAS under the SALT programme is scheduled to be conducted on 28 August 2026 across identified sample schools in Andhra Pradesh.



The assessment is intended to understand students' grade-level proficiency, identify learning gaps and provide data for planning targeted interventions at the State and district levels.

The assessment framework specifies three subjects and three subject combinations. Each sampled student will appear for two subjects.

 

SLAS 2026 Subject Combinations

Students will be assessed according to the following combinations:

  1. Combo 1: Telugu & English
  2. Combo 2: Mathematics & English
  3. Combo 3: Mathematics & Telugu

The question papers will be bilingual in Telugu and English, and the assessment will use objective-type multiple-choice questions with OMR-based evaluation.

 

AP SLAS 2026 Exam Time Table

 

The SLAS assessment is scheduled for 28 August 2026.

The selected sample schools are instructed to function with the identified sample classes from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the assessment day.

 

Important Clarification Regarding Classes

  • The proceedings clarify that the SLAS assessment that had been scheduled during the previous academic year for Classes 4, 6 and 8 was postponed. With the commencement of the new academic year, the assessment is now applicable to Classes 5, 7 and 9.
  •  Even if printed question papers mention Classes 4, 6 and 8, the proceedings formally clarify that the assessment applies to Classes 5, 7 and 9.

Guidelines for District Educational Officers

  • The District Educational Officers (DEOs) have been instructed to communicate the SLAS schedule to all stakeholders and ensure full attendance of students of Classes 5, 7 and 9 in selected sample schools on 28 August 2026.
  • The proceedings also direct DEOs to ensure strict confidentiality of question papers and proper selection and deployment of Field Investigators. District-level monitoring teams are to be constituted to oversee the assessment.

Duties of DCEB Secretaries

  • The DCEB Secretary is responsible for ensuring the supply of question papers, background questionnaires and OMR sheets to designated mandal-level storage points.
  • Confidential materials must be maintained securely. After the assessment, sealed packets containing OMR sheets and questionnaires are to be collected and submitted to the SCERT, Andhra Pradesh, by 29 August 2026.

Duties of Mandal Educational Officers

MEOs of selected sample mandals shall ensure:

  • Secure storage of question papers and OMR sheets.
  • Distribution of confidential materials through designated Field Investigators.
  • Distribution of assessment packages to schools by 7:00 AM on the assessment day.
  • Proper collection of assessment materials from all sample schools.
  • Submission of collected materials to the designated district-level centre on 28 August 2026.

Field Investigator (FI) Instructions

  • Field Investigators are required to attend the district-level training workshop on 26 August 2026 and thoroughly study the invigilation manual.
  • They shall collect question paper bundles and OMR packages on the morning of the examination by 7:00 AM, verify seals, conduct the assessment according to the prescribed procedures and ensure proper collection and packing of OMR sheets after the examination.

Instructions to Headmasters of Selected Sample Schools

Headmasters of selected sample schools shall:

  • Ensure 100% attendance of students on the assessment day.
  • Extend necessary support to Field Investigators.
  • Ensure completion of the assessment for all students of the sample classes.
  • Follow any additional duties entrusted by the DEO.

SLAS Is Not a Student or School Ranking Examination


An important point in the proceedings is that SLAS is designed to assess the education system and support improvement in learning outcomes. It is not intended to evaluate individual students or individual schools.


The results and analysis of SLAS are not to be used for performance appraisal or ranking purposes. All concerned officials and teachers are instructed to ensure fair and transparent conduct of the assessment.

The statement covers districts including Anakapalli, Anantapur, Annamayya, ASR, Bapatla, Chittoor, East Godavari, Eluru, Guntur, Kadapa, Kakinada, Konaseema, Krishna, Kurnool, Manyam, Markapur, Nandyal, Nellore, NTR, Palnadu, Polavaram, Prakasam, Sri Satyasai, Srikakulam, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and West Godavari.

 

Conclusion

 

The AP SLAS 2026-27 assessment is an important system-level initiative for understanding learning levels among students of Classes 5, 7 and 9.
